Hi, I’m Monica, founder of The Lotus Trunk 🌸 Originally from India, my journey took me to France in 2014 and then to Belfast in 2019 with my husband. We’ve truly fallen in love with Northern Ireland - but a part of my heart will always miss India. That longing inspired The Lotus Trunk. I wanted to bring a small piece of my Indian heritage to this part of the world and share what I’m deeply passionate about: the incredible talent of underprivileged artisans in India. It felt like the most meaningful way to stay connected to my roots while giving back to my home country. Every product you see here is handmade with hope and love, and every purchase makes a real difference. I’m Grace from Grace’s Crochet Comforts. I started my business, after finding comfort in crocheting when I was struggling with my M.E/CFS and Fibromyalgia. My symptoms had flared so much that I was forced to leave my career in childcare and became relatively housebound. No day is the same with my symptoms coming and going like the wind. Finding cute crochet patterns and realising I could follow them to make adorable stuffed toy items brought me a lot of joy. Focusing on crochet projects eased my anxiety as I could see, that I was achieving something in the day despite my low energy levels. In my studio you’ll find everything from house and dog matchstick holders (complete with strikers) to pig and dog glasses holders that keep your specs safe and make you smile. I’m a big believer in celebrating the small wins, so I also create cheeky badges for life’s everyday triumphs — whether you “put on pants today” or “only cried once today,” there’s a badge with your name on it. If you love something a bit playful, you’ll meet my growing flock of quirky duck characters and my sea swimmer plaques, each one hand-decorated with underglazes and reactive glazes to give them their own unique personality. No two pieces are ever the same — that’s the joy of handmade. I also make affordable ceramic jewellery and brooches, perfect for gifting or treating yourself.
